Adriane Shell, DVM
Dr. Shell, Veterinarian/Owner, grew up in Frederick County dreaming of being a veterinarian. Her youth was largely spent participating in 4-H exhibiting dairy cattle. She attended Hood College for her undergraduate studies.

Dr. Shell grew up in Frederick County dreaming of being a veterinarian. Her youth was largely spent participating in 4-H exhibiting dairy cattle. She attended Hood College for her undergraduate studies. She loved her Hood College experience and was very active on campus and the student government association. Throughout high school and college Dr. Shell worked in kennels, on farms, as a veterinary receptionist, and as a veterinary technician to gain knowledge and experience within the veterinary field and to follow her true love—being surrounded by animals. Following college graduation Dr. Shell enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves as a 91 Tango. She was a veterinary technician for the US Army working with Military Working Dogs and participating in good will deployments vaccinating and deworming animals in South American countries. Dr. Shell attended Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. She completed her clinical studies at University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 2007. Since graduation she has worked as an Associate at a primary care veterinarian and as a Clinician and Director of an ER service in an emergency and critical care hospital. She has a wealth of experience providing wellness and preventative care as well as treating the sick and injured. She is excited to become your choice veterinarian for your beloved companions. In her free time Dr. Shell enjoys spending time with her high-school sweetheart, ultra-supportive, and funny husband and her adorable, active, and fun-loving children. She enjoys hiking, reading, and good TV.
Brooke Loewenstein, DVM
Dr. Brooke, Veterinarian, practiced mixed animal medicine and surgery in Frederick County for ten years and then spent a few years in practice in Baltimore County, and is thrilled to be back in Frederick County! She is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist and also has a special interest in dentistry.
Background
Dr. Loewenstein, or just Dr. Brooke, is originally from Wisconsin. Dr. Brooke practiced mixed animal medicine and surgery in Frederick County for ten years and then spent a few years in practice in Baltimore County, and is thrilled to be back in Frederick County! She is a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist and also has a special interest in dentistry. Outside the hospital, Dr. Brooke shares her life with her husband Dave and their son Thomas, as well as two mischievous cats, Phineas and Gus, and two energetic dogs, Piper and Murphy. Together, they enjoy hiking, wading in the creek near their home, and taking trips to the beach. Dr. Brooke is also a huge Green Bay Packers fan.
Education
She completed her undergraduate degree at the College of William and Mary in Virginia, and then returned home to attend veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin.
Rosalind Hain, DVM
Dr. Hain grew up on a farm in South Africa but moved to Maryland in 2004 to join a practice near Frederick and loved the area so much she has never left.
Background
After growing up in South Africa, Dr. Hain competed high-school in Kentucky and both her undergraduate and Veterinary studies at The Ohio-State University in 2004. She worked in a mixed animal practice in the Frederick area for 12 years and then spent 3 years between Baltimore and Hagerstown in general and emergency medicine. Dr. Hain received her certification in Canine Physical Therapy from a program at the University of Tennessee in 2010. She has special interests in surgery and orthopedics. When she is not working, Dr. Hain spends time with her little dog Dixie, two kitties Neeve and Net and her flock of sheep.
Johana Cenera, DVM
Dr. Cenera grew up in York, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA with a major in biology and minor in chemistry. She then completed a Master of Public Health degree with a specialization in Veterinary Public Health at The Ohio State University. Her studies included courses on zoonotic diseases (those that pass between animals and humans), foodborne illnesses, herd health programs and bioterrorism. Dr. Cenera enjoyed Ohio so much she stayed to complete her DVM degree at Ohio State’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
After graduation, she worked in a mixed animal practice for a number of years and has also provided relief coverage in urgent care and emergency medicine throughout Maryland. In 2018, she became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner after completing a program through the University of Tennessee. Dr. Cenera is excited to join Compassion Veterinary Hospital with interests in feline medicine, surgery, dentistry and pain management. In her spare time, she enjoys baking, running, traveling and relaxing at the end of the day with a good book. She is currently owned by one cat, Olive.
Juliann Guiffre – Practice Manager
Juli, Practice Manager, grew up in Frederick County and attended Walkersville High School. She completed her undergraduate studies at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD in 2010, majoring in Communications and Marketing.

Juli grew up in Frederick County and attended Walkersville High School. She completed her undergraduate studies at McDaniel College in Westminster, MD in 2010, majoring in Communications and Marketing. She also completed minors in writing, journalism, and film & video studies, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During her undergraduate studies, Juli worked for the Discovery Channel and as production assistant for several independent films. Following graduation, Juli worked for McDaniel College as an Office Manager and Public Information Assistant. She was responsible for coordination of special events to include commencement, presidential inauguration, and special lectures. She assisted in the development of website content and maintained the historical databases of the college. Prior to joining Compassion Veterinary Center Juli worked for Experient, Inc. as a registration specialist. She developed skills in website management, client services, data analyzation, and technical solutions. We are thrilled to use her diverse knowledge and skills to build and grow our veterinary practice. In her spare time Juli enjoys reading, outdoor activities, movies, and spending time with family and friends.
Brandi Miller – Veterinary Technician
Brandi knew caring for animals was her passion since she was 19. She began her journey as a kennel tech and over time, with hands on experience, she was promoted to lead surgical tech while working in internal medicine. Brandi is a mom to three boys who keep her on her toes, but she’s loving every minute! In her spare time, she enjoys trying new recipes and working in her garden. Her favorite part of being a vet tech is creating a bond with the patients, both human and furry!
Megan Cahill – Veterinary Technician
Megan has been a part of the CVC team for over a year now! She started out in the field in 2014 as a Veterinary Assistant and with experience has worked up to be a Veterinary Technician. She is currently working on getting licensed as a Veterinary Technician through the program at Penn Foster. From furry land animals, to finned sea creatures, Megan enjoys caring for them all! In her spare time, she volunteers at the National Aquarium in Baltimore as both an aquarist assistant and a husbandry aide for the animal rescue program. Megan loves working and experiencing the rehabilitation process of the sea turtles and seals that the aquarium rescues. She adores turtles so much that she has a Russian tortoise of her own, named Cherry!
Tessa Thompson – Receptionist
Tessa joined CVC in 2018 as our receptionist. She graduated from Towson University with a BA in Deaf Studies and is passionate about the language and culture, but after living in NYC and working at a doggy daycare, she realized how much she loved being around animals. When Tessa isn’t taking wonderful care of our clients, she enjoys being outdoors with her husband and aussies, Ernest & Oscar or inside cuddling with her cat, Norah.
Dani Dillon – Receptionist
Dani joined the CVC family in the summer of 2021. She was born and raised in Maryland and graduated with a degree in Photography – specializing in portraits and pets. She has always been interested in the care of animals and started pursuing her veterinary journey in 2018. When she’s not at CVC on the phones or at the front desk loving on pugs, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, kickboxing, beach lounging and watching sports (Lets go CAPS!)
